Athens Marathon course map poster

The Athens Marathon starts in the town of Marathon and finishes in the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens. It follows the Original Marathon Course, where Spyros Louis won the first Olympic marathon in 1896. Soon after the start it loops around the Tomb of the Marathon fallen, the memorial of the Battle of Marathon.

The first 10 km are flat, through Nea Makri. Then the course climbs in parts to its hardest stretch, the climb to the Stavros junction at 30 to 31 km. From there it's mostly downhill, under the bridge at the Katechaki junction and past Eleftherias Park, and the last 170 m are on the track inside the marble stadium.
