A birthday star map
A birthday star map shows the sky above the place someone was born, at the minute they were born. It answers a question many people ask: what did the night sky look like on the day I was born?
It suits a milestone birthday, such as an 18th, 30th, 50th or 80th, because the sky on the print does not change with age. You can go back as far as 1900.

Which date, time and place to choose
Use the town or city of birth and the time of birth. Many birth certificates record the time. A parent or older relative often remembers it too.
If nobody knows the time, choose a time that means something, such as midnight at the start of their birthday, and leave the time off the print. The stars visible on a date change with the hour, so a chosen time is better than a guess.
A birth in the day still has a sky. The map shows the stars above the place at that minute, even though the sun hid them.

What to write
Put the name and the age in the title, for example Maya, 30. Use the message for the place and a line from you. For a parent or grandparent, a message from the whole family works well.
The place name and date print below the message. You can add the time and time zone, which many people like on a birthday map.
